A Pair of Detentions in the Aftermath of Heathrow Irritant Spray Incident

Placeholder Heathrow Airport scene
The assault resulted in the temporary closure of the Central Terminal Area tunnel and the Terminal 3 car park.

An additional two individuals are now in custody related to a theft at Heathrow Airport where over twenty individuals sustained injuries by a substance believed to be pepper spray, according to police.

A man, 24, was taken into custody in Lambeth for suspected robbery and assault and a 23-year-old woman was arrested for suspected conspiracy to commit robbery. Both individuals remain in custody, authorities confirmed.

The arrests follow a probe into an assault at the multi-storey car park at Terminal 3 on Sunday. Before the incident, a pair of female travelers were robbed of their suitcases upon exiting a car park lift.

A three-year-old girl was among the those hurt in the event. A total of five individuals went to hospital for treatment and were later released.

Officers detained a 31-year-old man on suspicion of robbery and assault near the scene. He has since been released pending further inquiries as the investigation proceeds.

Police were alerted at about 8:10 in the morning GMT following reports of a number of individuals injured by a noxious substance thought to be pepper spray.

The assault - an event that authorities stated was a standalone incident and not considered terrorism - resulted in delays to rail services and the temporary shutdown of the main airport tunnel and the T3 car park briefly.
